79 1923 erwarb Andreas Gross das 1864 erbaute Hotel Prinz­Luitpold­Bad in Bad Hindelang. Die höchst gelegene Schwefelquelle Deutschlands war der Grund für seine Entscheidung. Zwischen 1928 und 1936 baute er das historische Bad zu einem renommierten Wellnesshotel im Allgäu aus. Im Zuge der Werbemaßnahmen wollte Andreas Gross ein Maskottchen pro­ duzieren lassen. Deshalb beauftragte er die Berliner Künstlerin Charlotte M. Kirchhoff mit dem Entwurf eines Schwefelmännchens. Mit dem Muster ging er zur Fa. Steiff, die das Maskottchen in der bekannten Qualität herstellen sollte. Ein Auftrag kam jedoch nicht zustande. Otto Steiff stieß eher zufällig auf das Musterexemplar, fand Gefallen an der Figur und ließ es in Produktion gehen. Daraufhin strengte die Künstlerin einen Urheberrechtsprozeß an. Die Produktion mußte eingestellt und die Künstlerin nachträglich entschädigt werden. Sulfur Mate. Steiff, 1933-1936. Felt and mohair. Brown-black cross eyes. Good condition. In 1923 Andreas Gross bought the Hotel Prinz-Luitpold-Bad, which was built in 1864 in Bad Hindelang. The sulfuric spring was the reason for his decision. Between 1928 and 1936 he realized his vision of a health spa in the Bavarian Alps. Part of the marketing campaign should be a sulfur mate, which was designed by the Berlin artist Charlotte M. Kirchhoff. With the prototype he went to the Steiff company, but an order was not placed. Otto Steiff stumbled on it, enjoyed the example and decided to produce the sulfur mate. He ignorantly infringed the copyright. The artist claimed against the Steiff company.
