English summary Richard Steiff (1877-1939) was not only the designer of the Steiff Company’s first teddy bear. The nephew of Margarete Steiff was also a german inventor and entrepreneur. In 1903 for example, he planned and erected in Giengen a factory building of concrete and steel which allowed all the workers inside to enjoy ample natural light, a first for its time. Steiff´s east block for the Steiff Factory is the oldest known building with a curtain wall facade. Unfortunately, this pioneering work in the world of architecture has been almost ignored. The photography is from a private album (see catalogue no. 123) which will be auctioned in this Special Steiff Sale.
