Chinese and Japanese Porcelain of the 19th and 20th
Centuries and their Forerunners from the Weishaupt Collection
This book describes a collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelain of the
later epochs. Though designed for specialists, the book also caters to readers who are
interested in the fine arts. Emphasis has been placed on several groups of porcelain. One
of these groups surrounds that porcelain which is connected to the Empress Dowager Cixi. A
second group of porcelain is designed to demonstrate traditions of Chinese ceramic in
relation to form and decoration. A third group of porcelain is comprised of tableware
which display illustrations of historical figures which were accompanied by inscriptions
which served to tell about their merits. Each of these inscriptions has been translated.
Porcelain inscriptions, which appear in this book, though perhaps in another connection,
have also been translated, to include reproductions of all markings which appear on the
items shown.
With 403 pages and 440 colour plates.
