Finely cast in seperate pieces this group consists of a Tiger pouncing on a snapping crocodile with fierce facial expressions. The pelt of the tiger and the characteristic skin of the reptile naturalistically rendered, mounted on a wood base.
From an old North German private collection, in family possession since about 1900
The artist Sano Takachika 佐野隆親 was a member of the Tokyo Chokokai and in 1894 exhibited at the Nihon Bijutsu Kyokai. He also worked for the Imperial family and is recorded in the M. Tomkinson Collection 'A Japanese collection' 1898 as well as the Khalil Collection.
