China, 18th c.
60 x 40 cm R.
The centre of the painting shows the red Amitayus seated in vajrasana on a lotus rising from the waters, both hands resting on his lap supporting the kalasha, wearing dhoti, bejewelled, his face displaying a serene expression, double halo behind, flanked by Manjushri holding sword and the four-armed white Sadaksharilokeshvara having his principle hands in anjalimudra, below them the bull-headed and multiple-armed Yamantaka and the six-armed Sadbhujamahakala, the upper section with Tsongkhapa in the centre flanked by a Hutuktu lama and another Gelugspa pontiff, the lower part with Vaishravana seated on his lion in the centre and flanked by the bull headed Yama standing on the bull and the two-armed Sri Devi riding her mule, all placed in a mountainous landscape.
