A very similar spittoon from the Percival David Collection is preserved in the British Museum, PDF 266 with the note: In the eighth and ninth centuries there was a shift of economic power in China from the north to the south, coinciding with a revival of prosperity in the southern Yue ware distilleries at Yuezhou in what is now Zhejiang province.
