Japan, late Heian periodH.17 cm
The shrine with a pair of hinged doors showing in the centre Amida Buddha standing in samabhanga on a lotus base placed on a throne, both hands demonstrating the vitarkamudra, wearing monastic garment including underskirt and a wide-sleeved mantle draped over both shoulders, both robes painted in gilt with various geometric and scrolling tendril designs, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows running into the nose-bridge, inlaid urna at his forehead, his hair continuing into the ushnisha set with a ratna to its front and a simple head nimbus behind.
