China, Qianlong seven-character mark, 18th/ 19th cent.H. 17,2 cm
Seated with legs crossed on double cushion covered with a blanket, all incised with various musters including birds amidst clouds with below a mountain landscape and scrolling tendrils, his right hand showing the vitarkamudra and holding the stem of a lotus flowering along his upper shoulder, the left resting on his lap supporting a manuscript, wearing a monastic garment including a patchwork mantle with each section incised with a flower, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows and his head topped with the specific bonnet, the front cast with the nine-character mark of Qianlong, resealed.
