Description:
Tibet, 18th cent.70 x 54 cm, R.
The centre of the painting with Vajrapani standing in pratyalidhasana on a lotus base, his raised right hand holding the vajra while the left is showing the tarjanimudra, wearing a lion skirt and scarf, bejewelled, his face displaying a wrathful expression with bulging eyes, open mouth, flaming hairdo secured with a skull tiara, surrounded by flames, a minute figure of Vajradhara embracing his consort placed in a pavilion floating on a cloud design above, surrounded by several different scenes including meditating and teaching monks, deities, some with an inscription and all placed in a mountainous landscape, in brocade and probably silk mounting, framed and glazed.
