Signed on the dial: Paulus Graf in München. Two-piece carved wood case. Bronze dial with fire-gilt ciffer ring, Roman numerals, Arabic minutes, date, depiction of the zodiac signs, small second, moon phase, "eye turner" and finely carved iron hands. Massive lever movement with 1/4-hour striking on two bells and circa 4 weeks running time. Weight driven and spring suspension of the pendulum. Rest., additions, damages due to age. Johann Paul(l)us Graf(f) came from Augsburg to Munich in 1756. As Matthias Golling's successor, he became Court Clockmaker under Max III Joseph von Bayern (1745-1777) in 1772 and guild master in 1781. Lit. Josef M.
