Mountain Landscape, hanging scroll, ink on paper. Inscription and signature by the artist: “Imitating the style of Dadizi (Shitao, 1630 - ca. 1720), in the ninth month of the year 1958, Zhao Wangyun”. One seal of the artist: “Zhao Wangyun”.
Zhao Wangyun was from Sulu in Hebei province. He studied at the Peking National Art College and in the 1930s travelled in the countryside north of the Great Wall, where he painted the rural life of the local people. After 1949 he became the leader of the Artists’ Association of Shaanxi province and did paintings of the landscapes in the north of China with herding people. His later works increased in the handling of brush and ink and in the 1960s he became the founder of the Chang’an School
