Ink and few colors on silk, framed under glass. A group of five scholars sitting in a studio pavilion by the water, reading books and talking. Two young servants carry chrysanthemums from the residence. In the distance high mountains and in the foreground a boat with another scholar apporaching the shore, who is coming to the meeting. Lower left two seals and lower right one seal, all unread.

The depiction with scholars meeting is a popular theme in the Chinese paintings. The present painting shows a reference to Li Gonglin's 'the Elegant Gathering in the Western Garden' from the Song period
