The turquoise blue cameos made of glass flow, i.e. made of coloured opaque glass paste, were extremely popular in England and have been produced there since the 18th century. In literature, this color is therefore often referred to as "English turquoise".
Throughout Europe, these gems and cameos made of glass paste were highly sought after until the late 19th century and were very popular in elaborate, often antique pieces of jewelry.
