Ladies with a child in the summer garden. Ink and colors on silk, hanging scroll. Signature: "In the second autumn month of the yihai year [1935] in Song style, Yutian" and an artist seal: "Fan Xu". Antique shop label.
From a North German private collection, acquired before 2000. Export wax seal of 1950s attached - Partially slight water stains
Fan Xu with courtesy name Fan Yutian came from Shanyin of Zhejiang Province and was active in the late Qing Dynasty. He is known for figure painting, particularly of women. His father, Fan Shaoyun (1885-1962) is one of the four talented painters of the Wu school along with Wu Hufan, Wu Zishen and Wu Daiqiu.
