China, 19th c.354 x 121 cm
Creamy white silk satin embroidered with colored silk in satin stitch.
In the center a peacock and a pheasant beneath bamboo and blooming peonies and magnolias. Smaller songbirds sitting in the branches.
Usually such large hangings were used to decorate the rooms and the birds depicted were indications of the rank of the host.
