Japan, cast mark: Sessei shu, Meiji period
H. 18/36,5 cm
Ovoid shape, both jars with cast scenes of children playing with puppies in a cloudy landscape with flowering sprays of peonies against a hammered ground and shoulders with dripping and pooling design. The design of these vessels refer stylistically to the famous story of the Shiba Onko. Separately cast bronze stands resting on six legs decorated with shishi mascarons joined to a round base with a relief of a swirling dragon.
