Chen Shun, style names Daofu and Baiyang shanren, was from a prominent scholar family from Suzhou. He was a student of the famous literati painter Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), but followed later the wet ink style of Mi Fu (1052-1107) and Mi Youren (1075-1151). He mostly painted misty landscapes of South China in this mode but was also a noted painter of flowers in the so called ‘boneless’ manner without contour lines. This is a fine painting with a nice calligraphic inscription in his typical fluent style
