Magpies Amidst Spring Flowers. Ink and colors on paper, mounted as hanging scroll. Signature by the artist: “In the first decade of the jiaping (12.) month of the bingshen year (1896), Huang Shanshou.” Two seals of the artist: „Shanshou”, “Shanshou”.
From a European private collection, acquired prior to 1990
Huang Shanshou was a high official from Wujin in Jiangsu province. He was also a noted calligrapher and painter. He excelled in figure painting, blue and green landscapes and flowers and birds in meticulous style.
