"Clarinet", oil on canvas, signed "Ran Jie" and dated "2005.1" in the lower right corner, framed.
Ran Jie was born in Baoding, Hebei, in 1954. He studied painting with his father, an art teacher. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, Hebei branch. Since his first award in 1987 for the group painting "Spring of the Green Sea", he has received other awards and received numerous honors, e.g. two of his oil paintings were selected each for the Chinese Oil Painting Exhibition in Hong Kong in 1991 and 1992, "Bathing in the Plateau" received the special prize "International Cultural Exchance Association Excellence Award". Through his efforts in cultural exchange between China and Japan, his works regularly participated in the "Chinese Art Exhibition" in Japan. Most recently, his still lifes were on display at the Huazhong Art Museum in his hometown of Baoding from February 18 to March 5 this year.
