A typical tavern scene of Bartholomäus Molenaer, the brother of Jan Miense Molenaer, with carousing peasants and poor beggars. Under the influence of Adriaen Brouwer and the van Ostade brothers, numerous humorous, crude genre pieces were created that portrayed the everyday life of impoverished peasants.
