Jules Wiese (1818-1890) and his son Louis (1852-1923) were among the best Parisian goldsmiths of the 19th century. Born in Berlin in 1818 as Julius Wiese, he completed his apprenticeship with Georg Hossauer, the legendary Berlin court goldsmith. After his apprenticeship, Wiese went to Paris in 1839 and worked for Froment-Meurice as a workshop manager. In 1844 he founds his own company, but continues to work for Froment-Meurice. Together with him he receives his first gold medal at the 1849 World's Fair. At the 1855 World's Fair, Wiese exhibited only under his own name. In the years that followed, the Wiese workshop received innumerable awards for its jewellery, which was often crafted in an antique style.
