In the case of the present fragment, one may imagine as the original composition a painting such as Raphael's "Madonna in the Green" (Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna, inv.-No. 175), which shows the Virgin together with Christ Child and Infant St. John in a landscape. Historic frame, verso on a label old attribution to Francesco Melzi.
