Tibet, late 18th c.60 x 42 (119 x 72) cm
Depicted is the Buddha Amitabha, the Lord of the immeasurable light, in his western paradise. He sits on a throne supported by two ptauen and is surrounded by the eight great Bodhisattvas: Padmapani with the lotus blossom on the left, Vajrapani with the vajra on the right. Below left Manjushri and right Maitreya. Underneath left Samantabhadra (blue) and Akashagarbha (red), right Kshitigarbha (yellow) and the green Sarvanivaranavish-khambin. In front of the throne in a lotus flower the soul of a deceased person who is reborn in the western paradise of Buddha Amitabha. In silk brocade border.
