Ink and colours on silk. Signature: On the 29th day of the ninth month of the dingwei year of the Xuande era (1427), this pic ture of stately grain was playfully painted by the imperial hand. Presented to the eunuch Moqing. Four collector's seals, in cluding three seals of the famous collector of the Ming period 'Xiang Yuanbian (1552-1590): Molin sheng'; 'Molin biwan' and Ruoshuixian'.Ears of millet - symbol for a rich harvest. Japanese frame with glass.
Old German diplomate collection, by repute assembled during a visit in Japan in the early 20th c. - Wear, traces of age, very minor restorations
