The shallow bowl is set on a short everted tapering foot, its rim decorated with a band of pearls, the inside of the bowl incised with an open flower showing its petals at the centre, the outside embossed with a design of a continuing swaying line forming tear-drop and heart-shaped medallions decorated with interlinked birds and animals at its upper register and scrolling tendrils below, the mouth-rim encircled with birds, the base with a bird amidst flowers and all set against a punched design.

A similar bowl was unearthed in 1970 at Xina, Shanxi province - Cf. Simon Kwan 'Chinese Silver - The Muwen Tang Collection Series', Hongkong 2004, no. 15, 17 and 19; The Dayton Art Institute 'Chinese Gold & Silver in American Collections', Ohio 1984, no. 12 (from the collection of John D. Rockefeller 3rd) - Minor wear, slightly chipped
