Three boys with three goats under a flowering plum tree by a river. Ink and colours on silk, framed under glass. Signed lower left: painted by Chengzhai Liang Derun. A seal illegible. The painting shows the depiction of "san yang kai tai" - three goats appear together, symbolising prosperity in spring.
From a European private collection, collected before 1990 - Signs of age, silk minimally damaged, a few creases
Liang Derun (dates of birth and death unknown, active in the late 19th century), courtesy name Chengzhai, was born in Dacheng, Hebei. He became a court painter of the Ruyi Studio around 1872 during the Tongzhi period. His works covered a wide range of themes, including figures, flowers, birds and landscapes, and are well-known for the meticulous brushwork and vibrant colours
