China, 19th c.275/293 x 149 cm
A young general standing in the center, possibly Guan Gong, recognizable by his bright red face, dressed in a dragon robe under a red sun. The rather simple and powerful embroidery is designed for long-distance effect. Upper fabric: silk (brown-violet), embroidered with silk thread in satin stitch. Backing: cotton, printed in a traditional blue and white pattern. Rod tunnel at the top from blue cotton.
