Thailand, Suphanburi-Periode, ca. 14th ct.H. 34,7 cm (o.S.)
Standing in samabhanga on a rectangular plinth, both hands showing the abhayamudra, wearing samghati secured with a belt around the middle and uttarasangha draped over both shoulders while clinging to his body, his face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below linked eyebrows, aquiline nose, smiling lips, elongated earlobes, the curled hairdo continuing into a low ushnisha and topped with a lotus-bud.
Formerly from a German private collection, acquired locally in 1985 - Minor wear and restorations
The Suphanburi style combines both Khmer and Thai characteristics. The square face is typical for Khmer Buddha images, while the facial details are more in line with the Thai way of casting images
