Japan, signed: Sessai horu 雪斎 and seal: Sessai, 2nd Half 19th c.L. 21,3 cm
Two-parted, musô' type. Meticulously carved figural scene depicting three groups of Chinese scholars drinking wine, looking at a scroll and drinking tea in a rocky landscape. Inscription: ‘’Saien gashu ni zu‘’ (西園雅集之圖 / picture of the elegant gathering in the west garden).
