Description:
Tibet, early 19th c.61 x 42 cm R.
Beautiful South Tibetan painting with the main depiction of Tsongkhapa and his two main disciples in the centre. At the top centre is a beautiful depiction of the coming Buddha Mai-treya with the master Atisha on the left and Tsongkhapa on the right. This is followed at the top left by the important tantric eight-armed deity Guhyasamaja and immediately below him the god of the dead, the bull-headed skull Vajrabhairava. Opposite on the right-hand side is the equally important tantric deity Chakrasamvara and just below him the Nâdi-Dâkini. On the lower picture plane we find the Dharmarâja (Chos-rgyal) with his Shakti on a bull, in the centre a Mahâ-kala, and on the right side of the picture perhaps a kind of Dorjelegspa.
From the Albert Schneider Collection, acquired before 1980 from Schoettle Ostasiatica in Stuttgart, Schoettle no. 2709, by descent to a family member - Minor traces of age, framed under glass
