A fine pilgrim bottle

Mongolia, 19th cent.

Mongolian moon flask made of burl wood with ornamented silver mountings, richly decorated with türcises and corals and applied gilt Buddhist emblems between cloud curls. Two lizards made of carved burl wood as handles. Bone inlays. The cover also inlaid all round with chisels alternating with coral.
From an important Southern German private collection, acquired at Koller Zurich, 29 May 1981, lot 85 - Traces of age, minor dam.
