Very finely crafted lacquer box with deep black lacquer decoration. The cover depicts a leaping carp above waves in hira- and takamakie in various gold lacquer colours.
From an old North German private collection, acquired between 1992 and 1994, this lacquer work acquired at Nagel, 7.5.1994, lot 340
During the greater part of the last century, the Nishimura Hikobei group of artists, who used the trade name Zohiko, specialised in reproductions of famous early lacquers, especially those of the so-called Rimpa movement.
