China, Qing dynasty, 18th to early 19th c.L. 134 cm, B. 214 cm
Silk gauze (Navy blue), embroidery: silk (graduated shades of blue, green, red and yellow), counted stitches; gold and silver thread, appliqué technique. Edging: silk woven with gold thread. Sleeve extensions: Black silk, embroidery: appliquéd gold thread. Five gold-plated brass spherical buttons in openwork. Lined with blue silk in the sleeves and along the borders. The golden dragons in the usual distribution between dense, spherical clouds, as found in the late Qianlong period. Also red bats and the Buddhist treasures. Below the central dragon on the chest and back is a canopy with a lantern hanging from it. The lower part with waves piled high, in which red peonies, bats and other treasures float. Matching borders and cuffs, most probably original. Due to its length, it can be assumed that this garment was made for a young person. The central slit suggests a young man.
