A rare gilt-copper figure of Durga Mahuishamardini

Nepal, 19th century

Inlaid with coral, lapis lazuli and turquoise. Standing in pratyalidhasana on her lion and the bull’s tail placed on a lotus base, her multiple hands radiating around her body holding the prescribed attributes, wearing sari, mala of severed heads, bejewelled, her face displaying a severe expression with protruding eyes below arched eyebrows, her hair combed in a chignon and secured with a tiara, sealed.
