Description:
Mongolia, 19th cent.27,5 x 54 cm
The horizontally shaped painting depicts a variety of offerings around a centrally placed oval rock island surrounded by waves and a lotus petal band showing another group of various offerings, including tormas, each placed in a skull receptacle from which a cloud emanates containing a variety of smaller pavilions around a central, albeit slightly larger, pavilion;flanked on either side by many animals, including quadrupeds, mythological beasts, reptiles, birds and a pavilion in the lower register, above which are a series of emblems, weapons and costumes of deities for meditation;of deities for meditative visualisation, another row with further offerings in bowl vessels, the Buddhist emblems and, along the upper edge, a row of bowls connected to birds of prey, each emitting vibrating darms, in fabric mounts.
