China, Song dynasty (960 - 1279)
H. 19,5 cm
Of Ding-yao ware type with a creamy ivory glaze, on one side with long “teardrop” trails, covers the surface which is finely incised with a large lotus flower and scrolling leaves.
Important South German private collection, acquired at Nagel from the collection of Peter Schmidt (born 1937) 2.11.2011, lot 603, according to tradition acquired at Bluett in London in the 1980s

Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (II), The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong 1996, no. 166, a bit larger meiping bottle (h.: 19,5 cm), but with different, large incised floral decoration and a greenish white glaze, dated to the Song dynasty - Sotheby’s, London, 20.7.2001, lot 47, a Ding-yao pear-shaped vase with a similar incised lotus décor dated to Northern Song and with further references - Few very small unglazed areas on the body, good condition
