He Tianjian was born in Wuxi, Jiangsu province, in 1891 and was a well-known painter and calligrapher. At the age of nine, he already had a great interest in Chinese painting and copied the masterpieces of the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. He was one of the co-founders of the Shanghai School of Painting. In the 1930s, he was particularly well known for his landscape painting, which took the Shanghai School to a new level. After 1949, he had the opportunity to travel through the beautiful landscapes, which gave him new inspiration for his artistic creation. In 1959, he exhibited his works in Denmark in addition to national exhibitions and became a member of the Corner Artists' Association in Denmark. His work is included in the permanent exhibition in the People's Congress Hall
