1: Manzai dancer made of wood with fine lacquer decoration and mask made of maritime ivory; 2: Nô dancer made of boxwood with mask made of maritime ivory.
From an old private collection in the Rhineland, coll. no. 67, the sambaso dancer sold at Van Ham Cologne, 18/19 Nov. 1977, lot 142, formerly Paul Vautier (1865-1938) collection, acquired in Japan around 1910, sold in 1918 to Friedhelm Haniel (1888-1938), Düsseldorf, then acquired by the collector at Offermann & Schmitz in December 1977 (Manzai dancer with note ex-collection Haniel, ex-collection Vautier, 12/(19)77 Offermann & Schmitz), no. 60 (Nô dancer) - Minim. traces of wear, the second netsuke with repair at the feet
