Description:
Japan, Taisho Period, early 20th c.H. 57 cm /ca. 95 cm
Cast in standing position with raised hands, dressed in a flowing robe fastened around the waist, adorned with a bejewelled necklace spanning the chest. The face bears a serene expression, with downcast eyes beneath arched eyebrows that flow into the nose-bridge with lips calm and composed. The hair is swept back, partially hidden under a tiara which sits beneath a draped cowl. Dark patinated bronze, the robe and the necklas of polychrome Cloisonné-enamel with a floral pattern. Mounted on base.

Kannon Bosatsu, known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion, embodies boundless mercy and wisdom aimed at alleviating the suffering of all beings. In the Buddhist tradition, Kannon is revered for her ability to hear the lamentations of the world and provide comfort and guidance.
