Description:

Tibet, 19th cent.
121x174 (130 x182) cm, R.
The painting is showing the Green Tara or Syamatara in the centre seated in lalitasana on a lotus base with her right hand lowered in the varadamudra while the left is raised in the vitarkamudra, both holding stems of lotuses flowering along her upper arms, wearing sari, scarf, bejewelled, her face displaying a serene expression with downcast eyes below arched eyebrows, smiling lips, her hair combed in a chignon secured with a rich and elaborate tiara, head and body halo behind studded with jewels, above her is placed the red Amitabha holding the alms bowl, surrounded by a myriad of her emanations all around and symmetrically divided over nine horizontal rows, in frame.
