The barrel delicately carved with the hunting scene of Diana the Huntress and Acteon who is depicted lying wounded on the ground, with a stag being attacked by hounds and a boar speared to death in a forest, the lid surmounted by a wounded stag being attacked by a hound, the ivory handle of a satyr clutching on to a naked nymph with folate scrollwork, the silver foliate repoussé mounts with cartouches centred by animal scenes surrounded by garlands of fruit. Parcel gilt silver mounts with pseudo Augsburg marks. Total weight ca. 1637g. Smaller chips and minor repairs to extremities. Comes with EU sales permit for ivory no. DE DA 250916-5
