Description:
Tobias Tresch, Vienna, circa 1725H. 44 cm
Partially ebonised and gilt display case with chinoiserie painting, Partially gilt metal mounted and engraved brass front, silver-plated dial ring and auxiliary dial ring for date, blued openwork iron hands. Signed ‘Tobias Tresch Inn Wien’. Brass movement with verge escapement, circa 36 hours running time, striking on bell, engraved back plate, winding via chain and fusee, short pendulum. Movement in working order, slight signs of age, minor restorations, gut strip torn.
The clockmaker Tobias Tretsch (born around 1700) came from Wels and worked as a master clockmaker in Vienna from 1722 onwards. He already died very young in Vienna in 1729.
