Standing on a rectangular base, depicted with an open mouth, arched neck covered with a detailed mane equally hanging on both sides, with an elaborate saddlecloth with tassel-hung straps.
From a European private collection, acquired prior to 2007 - Traces of age, minor restorations, small drill hole at the back
Cf. with a horse of similar size and posture, but without the detailed modeling of the mane, dated to the Northern Wei dynasty, sold by Christie's London, 6 June 2000, lot 282, and with a horse similar in the depiction of the saddle, dated to the Eastern Wei dynasty, sold by Christie's New York, 18 September 2003, lot 201; cf. another horse, caparisoned in a similar way and with open mouth, dated to the Eastern Wei dynasty, sold by Bonhams London, 9 November 2017, lot 42.
