Tibet, late 18th cent.62 x 43 cm R.
The painting is showing a tree rising from the primordial waters with at the top Tsongkhapa seated in vajrasana on a lotus base, both hands holding lotuses supporting the sword and manuscript, wearing monastic garment, his face displaying a serene expression, his head topped with the specific bonnet, surrounded by a myriad of minute figures belonging to his lineage including lamas, monks, protective and initation deities, the lower register with the four lokapalas and some worshippers, in brocade mounting, framed and glazed.
