Description:
South India, 19th/20th centuryH. 36,2 cm
Standing in a dancing posture on a demon reclining on a lotus base set on a rectangular pedestal pierced with a pair of holes, his left leg slightly raised, his four arms radiating around his body, the hands showing different gestures or holding attributes, wearing skirt, scarf draped around his waist, bejewelled, his face displaying a serene expression with almond-shaped eyes below arched eyebrows that run into the nose-bridge, elongated earlobes, his hair combed in a raised flaming chignon and encompassed by a flaming halo.
From the collection of the chemist, engineer and director of Merck & Co. Heinrich Georg Johann Harms (3.9.1906-28.6.1975) and his wife Eva Harms (10.11.1905-13.10.1998), largely collected in Shanghai between 1935 and 1942 - Minor damages due to age, partly small repairs
