Description:

Thailand, late19th c.
83 x 170 cm
The banner is divided into three sections, the central one depicting probably Gautama Siddharta meditating in front of a terraced temple and in discussion with worshippers, above several gandharvas with offerings, the upper register with five Buddha’s seated on a throne, their hands showing different gestures, just below a band containing five animals flanked by inscriptions, the lower register with scenes of the hell separated from the central section by a band with an inscription.
