"Bubble Bowls" with purple splashes are among the most fascinating ceramic products of the Song, Jin and Ming dynasties. These bowls, often referred to as Junyao or Jun ware, are characterised by their deep glazes and iridescent shades of colour, which created spontaneous, "bubbling" effects at high firing temperatures. The purple speckles or "splashes" were created by the targeted introduction of copper oxide into the glaze, resulting in shimmering, almost metallic surfaces. During the Song and Jin periods, such bowls were considered luxury objects for the enjoyment of tea and were valued for their natural irregularities. In the Ming dynasty, the techniques were further developed, making the play of colours even more controlled and artistic. - Fitted box - Good condition
