Pigments, opaque white, ink, and gold leaf on silk. The Arhat Nakula (Chinese: Jingzuo Luohan) is shown sitting on a chair made of gnarled branches. He is dressed in green robes decorated with gold over white undergarments, and his ears are elongated by gold earrings. He smiles down at the boy bringing him a bowl into which he dips a branch. He has placed his right hand on the boy's head in a gesture of blessing. The boy is wearing a red robe with blue trousers, both likewise decorated with gold patterns. His ears are adorned with gold rings, as are his wrists.
Old South German private collection
The painting is finely worked in bright colours and rich in detail in the style of the Ming painter, Ding Yunpeng (1368-1644) - a devout Buddhist - who was known for his depictions of Buddhist figures - Traces of age, minimally wear, wooden frame with metal mount
