Silk kesi with flower basket on a stand

Description:
China, ca. 18th cent.88 x 42,5 cm (105 x 59 cm R.)
Slotted weaving (Chinese kesi), colored silk, gold thread, plain weave, partly painted with pigments. The weaving depicts a basket filled with lushly blooming chrysanthemums and suspended from a tall stand. The baluster-shaped basket with a plate-shaped wide opening has a tall handle that is attached to the stand with a silk cord. A silk tassel hangs below the base. The stand, which rests on four curved feet, is carved with cloud-shaped decorations.
