Three-part folding screen with silk embroidery

Silk satin (cream white), embroidery: colored silk, dense knot stitches, gold thread, appliqué technique. Lining fabric: silk satin with additional pattern wefts. Folding screen with dark wooden frame, metal hinges. The front of the folding screen is covered with three similarly designed table hangings. Each of these shows a medallion in the center, surrounded by four dragons resp. three-legged toads. While the medallion was placed on the tabletop, the images on both sides are mirror-symmetrical and face outwards, as they hung down at the sides. Here we find leaping lions in a garden landscape; mythological birds with peonies; scholars and warriors in a garden, as well as numerous treasure ornaments and flowers. The frame is filled with dense gold vines with flowers and other treasures.

The Zhenya Textile Company was founded in 1917 by Lou Fengshao and Lu Jigao, among others, in Cangjie Street in the city of Suzhou. After the war, it was rebuilt in 1954 and, together with the three other factories (Dongwu, Guangxing and Xinsu), became one of the four largest weaving mills in Suzhou under the new name Zhenya Sizhi Chang (Zhenya Silk Factory) 振亞絲織厰 . However, due to strong competition and internal problems, Zhenya's sales declined steadily, leading to its closure in 2002 - Traces of age and use, somewhat yellowed and burnt, colours slightly faded, minimally wear, wooden frame minimally dam.
